INGREDIENTS
Q. I have allergies to some ingredients. How will I know if specific Musashi products will be suitable for me?
A. Musashi follows the Foods Standards Code when labelling our products. If there are products that contain gluten, crustacean, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, soy, sesame, milk and sulphites greater than 10mg/kg present in a product, this will be listed in the ingredients list. Where an ingredient is derived from one of these, this will also be labelled in the ingredients.
On occasion, a product may not contain one of the allergens above, however it is manufactured on the same equipment that processes products that do contain these allergens. This may result in what is known as “cross-contamination” and hence there could be small amounts of the allergen in a product. Where this is the case, Musashi will state “Made on equipment that also processed products containing……” following the ingredients list.
This statement, together with the ingredients list will help you make an informed decision about whether the product is suitable for you. We would always recommend that you check the ingredients list of our products prior to purchase if you have an allergy as we are constantly trying to improve our products and this may result in changes to the ingredients list.
Q. Which Musashi products are suitable for a diabetic?
A. As the needs of all diabetic will vary, we do not have a specific list of products that would be suitable. We would always recommend that you consult your health professional who would be able to advise the best products for you.
Q. Does aspartame cause cancer?
A. No. Aspartame is a type of sweetener used in many diet products as a substitute for sugar. There is a common misconception that aspartame causes cancer. In fact, there are hundreds of studies to show that the amount of aspartame in our food supply today is safe. Its safety has been thoroughly tested and approved by the Food Standards Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ).
Aspartame is used as an alternative to sugar because it provides sweetness without any calories. It is beneficial for people watching their weight, as it allows them to enjoy sweet foods without excess energy. Aspartame is typically found in diet products like soft drinks, cordial, yoghurt and desserts.
Q. It says on many of your products ‘Not suitable for children under 15 years of age or pregnant women: should only be used under medical or dietetic supervision’. Why is that?
A. Due to the higher levels of vitamins and minerals in these products than normal products, these products are classified as a “Formulated Supplementary Sports Foods.”
Children and pregnant women have specific requirements which need to be taken into account, so it is always best to consult a professional dietician or doctor before taking these products due to these increased levels of nutrients.
Q. What is the best way to take oral powders/amino acids as they don’t taste very good?
A. The best way to take amino acids is to put them straight into your mouth and then wash them down with water or juice. That way you make sure that you actually ingest the entire product.
If you don’t like the taste or the feeling in the mouth, you can also put them into a liquid – mix them in with a spoon and then drink them. However, pure amino acids don’t dissolve very well in water so you will need to drink the mixture quickly before the particles have a chance to settle. They do however often tend to settle to the bottom of the glass or stick on the side. You may need to put some extra fluid in the glass and mix in around to make sure that you actually get it all out. As long as you make sure you swallow all the particles, this method is just as good as putting it directly into the mouth.
Q. How do I take Creatine? I am confused by the instructions on pack.
A. The daily amount of creatine depends on your bodyweight. Generally you need 0.3g creatine per kg of bodyweight, so a 70kg person would require 21g of creatine per day. “Divided doses” means take the creatine spread out throughout the day, not all at once. In this case, this person may take 4 x 5g doses.
